notes & acknowledgments for Lingering in the Golden Gleam
part one | part two | part three | notes & acknowledgments | master post

Before I even get to betas, I owe a couple of people huge, huge, huge debts for this fic. First off, [info]arabella_hope: for coming up with the idea in the first place, for co-plotting a whole lot of the fic and for being INTENSELY EXCITED when I told her how out-of-control this fic had gotten.

Actual conversation from when we started chatting about the fic:

[info]arabella_hope: But! We do have to narrow it down to pivotal scenes.
[info]arabella_hope: Because shooort!
[info]causeways: Well, obviously. Or else this will go on forever. And that is always my problem with writing, is that I am like, BUT I NEED ALL OF THIS TO HAPPEN IN DETAIL. Which, wrong.

More infamous words were never typed in AIM, you guys. "I'm going to keep this short!" AHAHA.

The second debt of honor goes to [info]setissma, who continuously sort of molested me with ideas for sex scenes and told me the truth about prune juice and also apparently survived having a Christmas tree fall on her. If anything in this fic looks like she influenced it, it's probably because she did.

Okay, beta-readers. [info]memphis86 and [info]walkawayslowly are both awesomesauce and and didn't let me do things like make lakes outside of San Antonio be cold (they're not) or make Broadway shows happen on New Year's Day (they don't). And they got this done at record-breaking speed to boot!

Oh, if you are like Memphis and don't believe that Gatorade powder exists, omg, it totally does:

Like I would really make that up!

And then there are the approximately seventeen gazillion people who read my snippets and told me to shut up and write more, some of whom even came up with awesome ideas and let me use them, including but not limited to: [info]aynslee, [info]notthequiettype, [info]reallythateasy, [info]nasus221 and [info]stephanometra. You guys are all fantastic.

I didn't believe it existed, either. DUDE. THIS WAS FABULOUS. I've never seen the movie, so... YAY!

EXCEPT FOR HOW IT DOES. I'm so glad you liked this! And I mean, I am kind of biased, but this fic involves far less whining and far more gay porn, so I feel like it's got to be at least a little more awesome than the movie. ;)

Oh god, I remember hating that movie, but this fic totally made up for it! Loved it.

Also, Gatorade powder WTF?

Yay, I'm glad to hear it!

IDK! We always had it around my house when I was growing up, but I am a little bit suspicious that it might be one of those things like Minute Rice where I'm completely used to it and had it all the time (seriously, Minute Rice like three times a week at least!) and everyone else I know goes, "Bwaaaah?" when I tell them that, so. :\

Yay! This was so awesome! *small voice* I actually really liked the movie, too.

...we used to mix Gatorade powder with ice, water and vodka in college. And I took a canister of it with me to Africa to help avoid dehydration. Used the whole thing up in 2 weeks.

I'm so glad you liked it! And dude, I've always really loved it too! I just . . . IDK, I think I had the idea of Jared too firmly in my head when I tried to go back and rewatch the movie after I'd started writing this, which kind of killed it for me a little. Which, WAH, because I really did love it for years and years! :(

All of these things are totally awesome. I am so glad that someone else appreciates Gatorade powder's amazingness!

I always keep a jug of the classic orange-flavored powder in my cabinet. Weirdly, it has a long shelf life, but there are days when you just need it. And I, too, like it with more powder than it calls for.

I don't really question its shelf life! I just kind of accept that it will always be there. *g* And yeah, my mom would always mix up Gatorade for me and my brothers when we got sick. More powder is TOTALLY the way to go.

So this was completely fantastic and made me happy and smiley in a way Nic Cage never will. (Seriously I am grinning like a loon right now.)

*sigh* EPIC LOVE.

(To Sum Up - Great job. You rock.)

Dude! This was... ah! Love. Love love love.

The first movie I actually thought of when I read this was Mr. Destiny which was a Jim Belushi movie that was from like the 80's or something and was very much awesome, similar premise. I freaking loved that movie and this was a beautiful turn on that 'second chance' concept.

The boys were so wonderfully characterized and it was actually really easy to see Jared with all of his "You like me, RIGHT?" kind of personality ending up where he did. And their little family was so damn cute together... ah! Just... Oh I'm so in love with this fic. This shall become my new "I'm feeling down and need a pick-me-up" fic. *mwah* Thank you so much for posting this!

Haha, I was totally wandering Christopher St. the other day. I love the West Village. Jensen on Broadway? I love it. I am not a fan of Nic Cage or his movies, but this fic is absolutely adorable. I adore your Jared. :)

I just wanted to let you know I've compiled the podfic into a podbook. If you want a copy, it's here, and the cover can be viewed here.

Thanks!

Hi I just listened to this as a pod fic and its amazing. I have never seen the film but found the story very easy to follow. I loved Annie, and the 'welcome to earth', Jared was adorable, even down to the bribing Annie to keep him out of Jensons 'evil' clutches, the whole thing was just brillant. Thank you
