Tigers win! All is well tonight in the homeland. Victory for LSU!
While this wasn't the greatest birthday I've ever had -- on again/off again flu symptoms kind of suck -- it was far from the worst, and you all helped make it a much better day with the virtual gifts, emails, e-cards, PMs, comments and LJ shout-outs (and if, god forbid, I've left you out on this list, it's totally unintentional. Poke me so I can add you!).

So my husband has Crohn's Disease, though it hasn't been flaring up for about two years (thank god). When he was sick with it though, he was really sick. He couldn't eat a lot of foods, he wasted away for a year, he was just very ill all the time and cranky and in pain.
So recently, we were reading how they're linking Crohn's Disease to Accutane usage, how young people who once took accutane are at a heightened risk for Crohn's later in life.
Anyway, there's all this talk about class-action lawsuits and we don't really know what to do! He's not interested in getting involved now, but I feel like if this had happened four years ago (when he was really sick), he would have been VERY INTERESTED. And also, he's in a non-flare up time but we have no idea if he could get sick again and how that will effect his ability to work.
UGH. And I'm also mad that this stupid drug might have made him so sick! He spent the first two years of our marriage in and out of bed, miserable all the time. If that happens again, I want them to pay!
Anyway, what do you guys think? How does someone even get involved with something like that?

1. I have not gotten dressed today! I am very proud of this fact. I did just put together two bookshelves and finally finished unpacking all my boxes, so I wasn't entirely unproductive today. Word of advice: using your fist as a hammer is not a good plan especially when there is an actual hammer in the basket sitting right next to you. Ow!
2. I am still overwhelmed by grad school stuff, but there is really nothing I can do this weekend about any of it, so I am trying to just relax about it. I had some really good financial news that made me feel a bit better about things, but it doesn't change the fact that I am going into massive debt for a career that pays crap. I just have to keep reminding myself that I do really, really love social work and that this is truly what I want to do with my life.
3. I do have an interview for a tutoring job next week. Hopefully that will ultimately work out because if I can tutor maybe 8 to 10 hours a week that would be a huge help financially. Though when I start adding up my hours it gets a bit scary and I start running out of hours in the day.
4. For chicago people, since my apartment is getting close to being presentable, I am vaguely thinking about having a party on New Year's Eve. And by party, I mean like watching movies and playing board games and making ridiculous drinks and shit like that, so let me know if that would be something you are possibly interested in. If I don't end up doing that on New Year's eve, I'll probably do it sometime in January before I start classes.
5. White Collar was awesome last night. I'm not sure why the two episode after the premiere were not that good, but thankfully those appear to be the exception rather than the rule. It really looks like the show is going to be like Spy vs. Con Artist vs. Spy vs. Con Arists and about how Neal and Peter's epic love can defeat all who would dare attempt to destroy it. Also, I saw someone point out that June has been in the two best episodes. The writers should take note of that fact.
6. I actually have a writing idea! Hopefully something will happen with it because I feel like I haven't written anything in forever and pretty soon that's going to be a problem with Yuletide and Pretty Lights deadlines starting to get closer.

One paper done. \o/ Most of the fourth season of The West Wing watched. /o\ Two more papers to write, but not tonight. (I couldn't seem to phrase that in a way that didn't rhyme, sorry). Now I am going to go get a beer.

To continue the food highlights:
Mmmm, gluttony. :) Tonight it's white bean soup and homemade bread. Tomorrow, I am TOTALLY having cheesecake for breakfast, but then we are on the road back to DC. There have been some rough patches from the familial aspect, but overall, this has been a welcome respite from normal life. I've even managed to do a little reading and essay grading (AND DISCOVERED THE MOST AMAZING STUDENT GEM OF ALL TIME), although of course, not nearly as much as I should have done. But! There is always the drive back tomorrow.
For now, I am drinking champagne and watching LSU football, and there's the new episode of QI waiting for me on my harddrive, which is exactly as it should be.
- turkey (duh)
- turkey GUMBO (BOOYAH!)
- amazing cheesecake from my aunt's special recipe of JOY
- plenty of the most amazing dressing ever known
- turtle soup!
- homemade bread

Once upon a time, there was a girl who worked a lot of hours at her job and didnt get to go out to dinner with just her husband and without their two year old or any other various assorted relatives very often. Like, EVER. AT ALL.
So one weekend, they went out and secured a babysitter and made reservations at a swanky restaurant the girl had always wanted to go to and were all set and ready to go out for the night and--
THE GIRL WOKE UP SICK. LIKE, VERY SICK. AND THEY HAD TO CANCEL THEIR PLANS. AND IT SUCKED MIGHTILY. AND NOWI - I MEAN, SHE - IS SITTING ON HER COUCH, UNSHOWERED AND CRANKY AND EATING TACO BELL AND BEING PISSED OFF.
THE END.
sigh.
So yeah. This is my night. AWESOME. I might try and work on my HI, HELLO, VERY FUCKING DEPRESSING Jo and Ellen fic I started the other day or, I dont know, troll around for long, schmoopy J2 or wincest fics. DECISIONS DECISIONS.
Actually, there's a question. I've been on a J2 reading kick for a WHILE now, but havent read any Sam/Dean fics recently. Does anyone have any recs or a recs page or something you can shoot me? My perfect fic would be long, with some angst and or h/c with a nice long schmoopy ending of awesomness. And porn.
SIGH. I'm going to go mix Nyquil and red wine now.

Hello, all! I've still got exchange fic to finish, but I am more or less back nonetheless. And there is new canon to talk about, so. Spoilers ahead!

Today I'm wearing Prada's L'Eau Ambree, which I like because the amber is slightly vegetal, while the powder is all talc-sweet and a little fusty. I think this would be very nice on a man. WHY DO MEN WEAR CRAP LIKE AQUA DI GIO WHEN THEY CAN SMELL LIKE THIS??
Also, I can't watch asian horror (Japanese or Thai or Korean) movies since that time I saw Ringu and didn't sleep for 4 nights in a row after. (like a PTSD victim, I had to actively repress images from that movie. Whenever I accidentally think about it now, I have to force myself to think about FLOWERS and shit instead, so I don't get re-traumatized). BUT. I'm still morbidly fascinated with those movies (WHY ARE THEY SO SCARY?), so I think "Oh, I can just read the synopses on wikipedia instead! PFT, that won't be scary."
ahahaha.
I read the Ju-on 2 synopsis last night and COULDN'T SLEEP FOR HOURS. THAT SHIT IS SO SCARY, AUGH.

--Where exactly in Ohio is Sandover (from It's A Terrible Life)? I have watched the beginning of the episode and it does not seem to want to tell me.
--I have been stood up by friends for going out drinking tonight, so I am sitting at my desk with my hair and makeup done, writing fic. I am so cool. (Anyone in London up for impromptu drinking session tonight?? No?
balefully tells me I should go out anyway and be a lone wolf and pick up a hottie, but I do not think I can channel Dean Winchester quite successfully enough. xD)
--That Adam Lambert makes a rather great album, huh? *wails along satisfyingly*
